Heat a splash of oil in a heavy-based saucepan and brown the short ribs until golden.
Place the Beef in a large ovenproof dish or roasting pan and preheat the oven to 160°C.
To prepare the sauce, heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until soft. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Pour the sauce evenly over the ribs. Cover the baking tray with tinfoil and cook in the oven for 2 hours (turning the Beef halfway through cooking) or until the ribs are falling off the bone. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes.
