The fourth stage of the 2016 Old Mutual joBerg2c took riders from Sterkfontein Dam to Emseni (home of Berg and Bush) about 15 kilometres from Winterton. The stage has been shortened to just over 90 kilometres with a 1100m descent and 1706m ascent. The views are magnificent but the terrain tough with the riders leaving the Free State and dropping over the escarpment in to KZN.
Johann Rabie and Hendrik Kruger established a significant lead (3 minutes) in the event after the fourth stage. Gawie Combrinck and Nico Bell started off just one second off the lead but their hopes of an overall victory took a blow after a small crash and a puncture left them chasing the leaders for most of the day. Pieter Seyffert and Hanco Kachelhoffer (Altech/ Karan Beef) pushed hard to secure a place in the top 3 (4th place overall).
