    Supervisor - Construction Department

    Karan Beef Farming (PTY) LTD has the following vacancy at the feedlot in Heidelberg Gauteng - Supervisor (Construction Department).

    The successful candidate will be a motivated individual and will be in possession of the following:

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Grade 12 (Tertiary qualification will be to your advantage)
    • At least 5 years’ experience as Supervisor in a construction environment
    • Sound knowledge in building, general kraal maintenance, cattle kraal/pen building & lay out of grascamps will be to your advantage.
    • Conversant in English and Afrikaans
    • Computer literate
    • Dependable/Reliable individual
    • Must be proactive
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Must be able to do administrative duties
    • Must be able to solve problems and to work unsupervised
    • Must be able to work on weekends, overtime and on public holidays
    • Must be able to work with employees and manage employees

    Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Daily reporting to the construction manager
    • Giving tasks to employees daily and make sure they are up to standard

    General Manager

    Karan Beef Farming (Pty) Ltd are looking for a: General Manager based in Nigel.

    The General Manager is responsible for managing and carrying out duties associated with the long-term and day-to-day duties of the farm involving livestock and other agricultural activities. They lead operations by directing and co-ordinating activities such as animal care, farm maintenance, Construction and Health and Safety. General managers have a strong understanding of all operations on a farm and will assist when needed:

    Requirements:
    • Relevant degree or diploma in Agriculture or a related field.
    • 10+ years’ work experience at a cattle feedlot as well as other agricultural farming activities which include agronomy.
    • Extensive knowledge of cattle feedlot and agricultural operations and practises.
    • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Analytical skills and ability to solve problems.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Computer Literate.
    • Very good knowledge and use of Excel including the ability to generate Management reports.
    • Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail is paramount.
    • Must be prepared to work under pressure.
    • Must be able to work weekends, night shift, overtime and on public holidays.
    Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
    • Taking full responsibility for the operations on the farm which include cattle health and agronomy.
    • In conjunction with relevant department heads, managing the support departments to assist the core business operations.
    • Conducting regular analysis of outputs and results of all staff members on site.
    • Monitoring the outcomes and effectiveness of deployed resources.
    • Ensuring high quality of outputs.
    • Taking responsibility for outcomes relating to the agronomy and cattle health programs.
    • Timeliness, of various processes during the season.
    • Careful management and control of input resources.
    • Analysing existing operations, crops, staff, and financial documents and implementing improvements.
    • Preparing plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and ensuring staff understands expectations.
    • Ensuring that work is done safely and in time to meet targets and orders and that all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
    • Responding to emergencies and solving problems effectively.
    • Supervise farm production tasks.
    • Plan and implement planning to ensure tasks are completed on time and be of high Quality and within cost.
    • Manage costs spent on task and operations.
    • Understanding the operational budge and managing such.
    • Discipline to stick to the budget.
    • Collaborating with senior staff to prepare budgets and financial reports.
    • Ensuring that the farm is profitable and meets projected financial targets.
    • Budgeting and maintaining accurate records.

    HR Officer

    Karan Beef Farming (PTY) LTD has the following internal vacancy HR officer Albert Falls.

    The successful candidate will be a well-experienced, accurate, administratively strong and alert individual and will be in possession of the following:

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Grade 12 or equivalent (Preference will be given to candidates who have obtained a Tertiary Qualification in Human Resources Management)
    • More than 5 year’s relevant experience environment.
    • Proficient in MS Office.
    • Knowledge of computerised HR, Sage People 300 payroll and Time and Attendance systems.
    • No criminal record.
    • Ability to converse in isiZulu would be advantageous.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Own transport (no transport is provided).
    • Preference will be given to candidates who reside in the Pietermaritzburg / Cramond / Albert Falls region or who are willing to relocate to Cramond / Albert Falls.
    Key areas of responsibility will include, inter alia:
    • Responsible for the total HR/IR and payroll function at both the Feedlot and Abattoir.
    • Responsible and accountable to ensure all deadlines are met.
    • Responsible for recruitment, selection, placement and onboarding of employees.
    • Maintaining accurate administrative employment records.
    • Facilitating all matters relating to employee relations such as hearings, grievances etc.
    • Monthly reporting on all HR and Payroll matters.
    • Managing the payroll clerks on a daily basis.
