    Candidate Cattleman

    Karan Beef Farming (Pty) Ltd are looking for: Candidate Cattlemen (Internship) based in Heidelberg.

    A very exciting opportunity exists for four Candidate Cattlemen who wish to pursue a long-term career at Karan Beef. The Internship program will consist of on-the-job and in-house training using a Karan Beef specific curriculum. The internship will be conducted over a two-year period and candidates will be exposed to all aspects of Feedlot Activities which include, amongst others: Production, Processing, Animal Health, Backgrounding, Feeding and Marketing.

    The successful candidates will be in possession of a NQF Level 6 or higher relevant Tertiary qualification or Matric with 3 years proven experience at a Feedlot. They must possess a passion for Cattle farming and Animal Health. In addition, the Candidate must also meet the following criteria:

    Requirements:
    • Matric (Grade 12) with 3 years’ relevant and proven experience at a Feedlot or NQF Level 6 tertiary qualification from a reputable institution
    • Conversant in English, Afrikaans and an African language will be to your advantage.
    • Mechanical Skills / General knowledge in Farm Equipment
    • Excellent leadership skills
    • Excellent people skills
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Must be Computer Literate and able to use Microsoft Office software and must have basic to intermediate knowledge of Excel
    • Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail is paramount.
    • Must be prepared to work under pressure.
    • Must be able and willing to work weekends, night shift, overtime and on public holidays.
    • Own reliable transport.

    Electrician/Millwright

    Karan Beef has the following internal vacancy available at our City Deep branch.

    Electrician/Millwright in the electrical engineering department at City Deep.

    The successful candidate must be a motivated individual and must be in possession of the following listed below:

    Requirements:
    • Electrician/Millwright Trade Qualification.
    • Registered as an installation electrician.
    • 5 to 10 years’ proven experience as a fully independent Electrician/Millwright.
    • Conversant in English, Afrikaans, and Zulu.
    • Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge.
    • Good fault-finding skills.
    • Dependable, reliable, responsible, and fulfilling obligations.
    • Integrity – Honest and ethical.
    • Initiative – Take on responsibilities and challenges.
    • Analytical thinking – Analysing information and using logic to address work related issues and problems.
    • Adaptability/Flexibility – Job requires being open to change and to considerable variety in the workplace.
    • Persistence – Job requires persistence in the face of obstacles.
    • Must be able to work independently.
    • Excellent communication skills (listen, speak, read, write.)
    • Must be willing to work overtime and standby duties.
    • Good general health.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
    • Working in confined spaces and at heights.
    • Own Transport.
    • Coal and oil-fired boiler experience.
    • MV Transformer maintenance experience.
    • Health and safety obligations.
    • Be familiar with regulations (electrical machinery, pressure vessel, etc.)
    • Ammonia experience will be advantageous.
    • Must be able to work on refrigeration.
    Functions and Duties (included but are not limited to):
    • Act as the GMR2.1 on site and accept responsibility for such appointment.
    • Assembling and installing machines then testing them to make sure they are working correctly.
    • Must work in full compliance with the approved safety regulations.
    • Managing the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime.
    • Identifying and repairing problematic parts of a machine by running tests, making temporary repairs, or installing new parts.
    • Dismantling older machines and replacing them with new ones.
    • Overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing worn out pieces and lubricating mechanical parts.
    • Ensure that the machinery is operated within its design specifications.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain maintenance management programmes and ensure the statutory machinery records are kept and maintained.
    • Using machinery or equipment, such as forklifts, to move mechanical parts.
    • Assist with electrical installation on Construction sites.
    • Ad hoc tasks & functions.
