    Feedlot Veterinarian

    The Feedlot Veterinarian is responsible for the comprehensive management of animal health, welfare, and performance within intensive beef production systems. This role integrates preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic veterinary practices while ensuring compliance with regulatory, food safety, and animal welfare standards. A critical component of this role is the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of biosecurity systems across all feedlot and satellite operations.

    Requirements and Qualifications:
    • Registered Veterinarian with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
    • Minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in intensive animal production systems (feedlot experience preferred).
    • Willingness to travel regularly to satellite operations in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, and liaise with export abattoirs.
    • Strong computer literacy, particularly in Excel, data management, and statistical analysis.
    • Valid driver’s licence.

    Main Activities Of This Role

    Animal Health & Production Management

    • Develop, implement, and monitor preventative animal health programs, including vaccination, parasite control, and treatment protocols.
    • Diagnose, treat, and manage infectious, metabolic, and production-related diseases.
    • Conduct routine clinical inspections, post-mortem evaluations, and herd health assessments.
    • Optimise cattle performance through health risk management and evidence-based interventions.

    Biosecurity Management (Implementation & Accountability)

    • Design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve comprehensive biosecurity programs across all feedlot and satellite facilities.
    • Take full ownership and responsibility for biosecurity compliance and risk mitigation.
    • Establish and enforce protocols for animal movement, quarantine, visitor access, hygiene, and disinfection.
    • Monitor biosecurity performance, investigate breaches, and implement corrective actions.
    • Train and educate operational staff on biosecurity principles, procedures, and responsibilities.
    • Ensure biosecurity alignment with animal welfare, food safety, and export market requirements.

    Compliance, Welfare & Regulatory Oversight

    • Ensure compliance with SAVC regulations, Animal Welfare standards, and statutory requirements.
    • Support export and abattoir health programs through liaison and documentation.
    • Participate in audits related to animal health, welfare, food safety, and biosecurity.

    Data Management, Reporting & Technology

    • Analyse health, mortality, morbidity, and treatment data to identify trends and risks.
    • Maintain accurate veterinary, treatment, and medicine records.
    • Utilise Excel and other digital tools for reporting, analysis, and decision support.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement through data-driven recommendations.

    5. Research, Development & Continuous Improvement

    • Assist with internal Research & Development projects and clinical trials.
    • Evaluate and support the introduction of new veterinary products, technologies, and management practices.
    • Stay informed of emerging diseases, industry trends, and best practices in intensive beef production.

    Group Workshop and Logistics Manager

    The Group Workshop & Logistics Manager, who will be based in Heidelberg, is responsible for the strategic,operational and financial management of the entire Karan Beef fleet, including cattle and feed trucks, agricultural tractors, feed cars, earthmoving equipment, farming machinery and implements. The successful candidate will ensure optimal fleet uptime, cost efficiency, safety compliance, supplier performance, and oversees the complete logistics chain, including route planning, fleet monitoring and cost analysis across all sites.

    Requirements:
    • Grade 12 / Matric
    • Technical or Mechanical Trade Test, Mechanical Engineering and/or(advantageous)
    • At least 10 years’ experience in a Senior related role.
    • Must be willing to travel from time to time.
    • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends.
    • Must reside in or close to Heidelberg.

    Duties include but are not limited to:
    1. Fleet Technical Management and Procurement
      Ensures the effective maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of the full fleet—including trucks, tractors, feed vehicles, and farming machinery—through structured workshop oversight, preventative maintenance planning, and minimizing fleet downtime across all sites. The incumbent is also responsible for the purchasing of new vehicles for the Group
    2. Logistics & Route Planning
      Oversees all logistics functions by having oversight over the planning of efficient routes, allocating fleet resources, coordinating vehicle movements, and monitoring real‑time fleet performance to ensure timely and cost‑effective delivery of cattle, feed, and operational equipment. Includes safeguarding of assets against potential risks.
    3. Supplier & Procurement Management
      Manages supplier relationships and procurement activities, including sourcing parts, machinery, and services; negotiating contracts; evaluating vendor performance; and ensuring reliable, cost‑effective supply to support fleet and workshop operations.
    4. Fuel Management
      Controls all aspects of fuel usage across sites by monitoring consumption, managing fuel contracts, ensuring accurate reporting and stock integrity, and driving initiatives that reduce waste, prevent losses, and optimize overall fuel efficiency.
    5. Financial Management & Cost Control
      Leads financial oversight of fleet and logistics operations by preparing budgets, authorizing capital expenditure, analysing operating costs, and implementing cost‑saving measures that improve financial performance and equipment return on investment. The Employee will also be responsible for Managing the parts store as well as managing regular stock takes.
    6. Compliance & Safety
      Ensures adherence to all safety, legal, and regulatory requirements by enforcing fleet compliance standards, maintaining documentation, conducting safety meetings, and promoting a culture of safe working practices in workshops and logistics operations.
    7. Leadership & People Management
      Provides leadership across multi‑site technical and logistics teams by setting direction, developing staff, managing performance, fostering teamwork, and ensuring personnel are aligned, motivated, and equipped to support operational excellence.

    • B.Com (Internal Audit or Accounting) Degree
    • Membership with IIA
    • CIA – Certified Internal Auditor – must requirement
    • 4-6 years Internal audit experience (FMCG or Agriculture would be advantageous)

    Cattle Administrator

    • Perform general cattle creditor reconciliations

    Cattle Administration & Stock Control:

    • Daily capturing of cattle data
    • Ensure cattle transfers are accurate and balanced
    • Capture and reconcile slaughter totals
    • Match loads received with supplier documentation
    • Maintain and reconcile holding station stock sheets

    Communication & Liaison:

    • Liaise with cattle buyers and farmers to resolve queries
    • Resolve processing and stock-related queries with holding stations

    General & Administrative Support:

    • Provide relief receptionist support when required

    Requirements:
    • Minimum of a BSc in Food Science (Biotechnology) or an equivalent qualification.
    • At least 5 years’ relevant work experience in the food industry, particularly in manufacturing and processing.
