HACCP Certification

Karan Beef maintains HACCP certification for the 3rd year in a row

It was in 1999 when the management of Karan Beef decided to implement a food safety system and the decision was taken to implement a HACCP system at the plant in Balfour. That decision started a process of learning and development not only for the management team or the HACCP team, but also for everyone working at Karan Beef. It was soon realised that achieving the goal of HACCP certification was not going to be an event but a process of learning, transformation and continually striving to be the best in the industry.

In 2002 all the hard work paid off and the company was audited by the SABS and received its first HACCP certificate. From then on the company went full steam ahead and consistently maintained HACCP certification by the SABS for the years 2003 and 2004. In 2005 Karan Beef again demonstrated its commitment to the system by again being re-certified by the SABS. The company as a whole is especially proud of its achievements this year because not only did it obtain HACCP certification for the year 2005, it did so in an exceptional manner by not having any documented findings.

The company also received certification against ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 by the EQCSA in 2003.

This is evidence that Karan Beef management and staff are fully committed to supplying their customers with a product that is safe to eat and that is also of a high quality standard. As the Karan Beef logo says, "Now quality has a name'.

Interesting to note is the fact that our food safety and quality standards have been improving in tandem with an increase in the growth of our company. In 2003, the company slaughtered its first millionth animal and is still growing strong!

We want to say very well done to the HACCP team for all the hard work and a special thank you to the workers on the floor because they are the drivers in this process that translate all our planning into action and real achievements.
