Karan Beef wins two awards at the 2nd annual Proudly South African Homegrown Awards
These awards were held on the 22nd April 2006 at the Theatre on the Track to showcase the achievements of the Proudly South African campaign and especially the creativity, innovation and spirited local content displayed by the 38 finalists. Adjudicated by a representative panel of South African leaders from business, government and the community, the competition attracted an impressive 196 submissions. Requirements for entry to the competition were tight and nominations were called for in the following categories;
- Company of the Year
- Service of the Year
- Product of the Year
- Innovator of the Year
- Exporter of the Year
- Bridge-Builder of the Year
Entrants were judged according to three main criteria: relevance to the category, presentation of the entry and use of the Proudly South African Logo, and proof of these claims. Each category has two winners:- one for an SME. (ie a company with less than 200 employees.) and one for the Corporate Companies. The panel of judges were tasked with the responsibility of evaluating the 196 submissions and faced a gruelling 200 hours of discussion and debate to whittle the list down to the 36 finalists. On the night Karan Beef won two major awards in the Corporate Category for SERVICE and PRODUCT OF THE YEAR which made them the top winner for the evening. Matthew Karan and Jacob Sibiloane received the awards from the Minister of Trade and Industry Mr Mandisi Mpahlwa and the Chairman of Proudly South Africa Mr Herbert Mkhize.
